I will however concede that I’m a person who tends to like to separate art from artist as the clichéd adage goes, but I still don’t like to make ostentatious displays of apologia for bad behavior and bad thoughts. Songs that perfectly encapsulate some of the worst of sexist attitudes and nerdy “nice guy” misogyny. However, when mentally cataloguing the band’s output, I’m just as likely to think about some of their best music as I am to consider the socially and politically degenerative misogyny the band liked to dabble in for over 15 years. I can level criticisms towards some parts of their career, but there’s still some music they’ve put out that’s some seriously top of the line punk rock / pop punk.
Let’s get some things out of the way right up top before I dig into ripping them apart – I like The Descendents.
